The mother of the boy who inspired Taylor Swift's song Ronan is speaking about how Taylor surprised her with the song.  Swift and the mother, Maya Thompson, had met before.  Taylor told Maya that she was reading the blog Maya wrote about her son's illness (Ronan passed away in 2011 shortly before his fourth birthday).

Taylor asked for permission to perform the song at a Stand Up to Cancer event, but did not play the song for Maya prior to the televised performance.  On the song Maya told MTV News:

"It's pretty much the words from my blog.  Listening to it was very emotional and I was blown away by how she got it. She got it in a way that most people don't. She took the time to take the intimate parts of things I'd written and put them into the song."

Ronan will not appear on Swift's upcoming album, Red, but a portion of the single's sales will go to the Ronan Thompson Foundation.
