According to at least one source, Keith Urban will become the next judge of American Idol.  The Hollywood Reporter has a source that claims Urban will join Idol for a salary between $3 million and $4 million.

There have been numerous music celebrities who have been considered for the spot.  Fellow country star Brad Paisley was strongly considered, but apparently wanted too much money.

Urban told an Australian radio station that he had been in talks with the people from American Idol.  But, he said he was more focused on recording his new album:

"All I can say right now is that I'm trying to make an album, and it's strange how these opportunities seem to all come in one big fell swoop...My priority right now is just making the record, and that's really got to lead the charge for me."

Urban does have experience judging music talent on television.  He's a judge on the Australian version of The Voice.

The Hollywood Reporter source claims that rapper Nicki Minaj will join Urban and the already signed Mariah Carey.
